Ruth 1:1-3
(1) In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land, and a man from Tulsa In Oklahoma, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the coutry of Louisiana.
(2)The man's name was Johnny, his wife's name Debbie, and the names of his two sons were Greg and Tate. They were Tulsans from Oklahoma. And they went to Bossier City and lived there.
(3) Now Johnny, Debbie's husband . . .
What?
It doesn't read like that in your Bible?

Sometimes, just to rev up my Bible reading
I insert my name, as well as
the names of my family/friends, in place
of the out-dated Bible names. It helps to personalize the words
and make it more readable for me.
ie I don't know an Elimelech or
Boaz, but I do know a Johnny
and his brother, Terry.

Do you have any tips that work for you
when it comes to reading the Bible?
A certain place you read?
A certain time?
Do you read randomly?
Or do you read straight through
from Genesis to Revelation?

YES!!! I often feel like we are Noah and the Ark story. We are always asked to do things that don't make sense (like making an ark). But God always has a plan!
Yea! I'm your first follower--hope you remember that if there's ever a giveaway or anything.
I often replace the name I'm reading with my own, but I don't think I've ever used anyone else's. Doing this certainly brings it home to me. And I try to read in the morning, before the world takes over--the phone starts ringing, etc. At night, I'm just too tired and often fall asleep in the middle.
I'm gonna follow you! Wonderful idea for a blog, by the way. :)
I think that that's wise...I had never thought of replacing the names like you did. I can see how it comes alive.
I don't read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. I read as I feel led. If I feel prompted to read a scripture based on a word that keeps ringing in my ears, I go off in search of more scriptures and then I'm off and running with my study!
I'm following you!
What a great idea to insert your name! Those Bible names can get tricky, for sure! And, look, you already have 5 followers!!!
Thank you for opening up this blog so more of us can read it!
When I study, I use KJV and a Strong's concordance. When I can't give the study my all, I use my God's Word Translation, it uses modern grammar, but is taken from the manuscripts and translated as such without "interpretations" used in some current translations.
